Shaking Mathis's shoulder wasn't doing anything to wake him up "Mathis! Mathis wake up please!" I knew he was dead, the blue coming out of his nose was confirming my assumptions. 

The red dripped down my ribs and started to form a puddle on the floor as I crawl towards the gun in the corner. Going back over to Mathis I lean my back against the wall and aim the gun towards the door.
