In which I fall in love with my brother's best friend. ***** "Don't pretend like you don't feel anything." His voice is low, sending shivers down my spine. "What do you mean?" "You know damn well what I mean." "I don't know what you're talking about." I pretend to ignore him, flipping some pages in my book. "Come on. I have all these assignments waiting. Aren't you supposed to teach me tonight?" "It depends on what you want me to teach." He smirks, his voice sounding even more dangerous. ***** I thought that my brother was the most popular guy in school, but as soon as I step into my university life, I realize how wrong I was. Meet Vaughn Cooper, his best friend. The guy is the epitome of every girl's dream. Godlike handsome. The quarterback. He's got the looks, and he's got the brain. Come on, he's got the scholarship to one of the most prestigious universities in the country, while I have just barely passed the entrance examination after long years of struggle during high school. How could a guy who worked that hard and deserves nothing more but adoration be labeled as a bad boy? Yeah, the answer is simple. The moment we lock eyes, I realize something as I stare into those piercing, amber eyes. He's not every girl's dream. He's every girl's nightmare. In my case, MY nightmare. Calm down, heart. Old feuds, new worlds, and a love that will last a lifetime... Ever since her dad mysteriously abandoned her family, life on the Clifton Estate hasn't been all that exciting for 16-year-old Marla True. Her Mum constantly works to make ends meet, which means Marla has to put up with gossipy old Bev keeping an eye on her and noisy little half-sister Ribbon. If that wasn't bad enough, her exam results are in... and they aren't good. But at least she has her friends. Asher, the responsible and strong boy who has known her all her life and Ed, the orphaned rebel who loves to stir up trouble. Then there's her, Marla, stubborn, fiery and just plain lost. Life on the estate is same-old same-old, until the senile World War Two veteran, Mr. Pelham, starts freaking Marla out with his staring and rambling, cryptic messages. Is he trying to warn her? Or hurt her? When the bored trio decide to teach the creepy old man it's rude to scare young girls, they learn far too late just how crucial it is to respect your elders. For his daughter, Bridget, has a power unlike anything they've ever seen before and she uses her deadly craft to send them to a place that will teach them the lesson of their lifetime. Bridget has sent them back in time, all the way to World War Two, throwing them into a secret fight for the survival of all magical folk in the world. Marla soon learns what it really means to be a True, and the power her absent father has kept from her all her life... Marla, Ed and Asher are thrown into a world they and their generation have no comprehension of, a world where love is a relic of a life left behind and your only duty is sacrificing all that you have. These three friends are about to learn about a side of World War Two that never made the history books. ***I can't take credit for the artwork, it's called A BREAK IN REALITY and it's by the AMAZINGLY talented Xenobyte on deviantart. In the walled city of Veylin, memories are currency. The wealthy hoard them, the poor trade them just to survive, and the government controls them all. A single stolen recollection can cost you your life. Cara Ray has spent years in the shadows, dealing in black-market memories, extracting and selling stolen moments to those desperate enough to pay. She despises the elite who never have to know what it's like to forget their own past just to scrape by. And no one infuriates her more than Caleb Morrow-the cold, calculating son of Veylin's Memory Commissioner, a man who's never had to lift a finger to survive. Caleb has never known hunger or the harsh realities of the streets. He's spent his life in the luxury of the city's upper echelons, shielded from the brutal truths of the world below. But when he learns that his mother's memories were erased by the government-and that she's still alive, somewhere in Veylin, living under control-his world is upended. To find her, Caleb needs help. The one person who could assist him is Cara. But she's no ally. She's everything he's been taught to despise. When Caleb tracks Cara down, forcing her into an uneasy alliance neither of them wants, their rivalry turns into something far more complicated. Both are caught in a game of survival-one trying to recover what was stolen, the other fighting to keep her own secrets buried. And as the stakes get higher, Cara begins to see Caleb as more than just a privileged enemy. But trust is a luxury neither can afford, and with each step toward the truth, their fragile truce begins to crack. In Veylin, memories are worth more than gold, and the line between enemy and ally is thin-especially when hearts are on the line.

"A guy isn't going to care if you're laughing with a dude," he said. "You laugh with friends. You do this with someone who is more than friends." Wolf placed his hands on my waist, pulling me in flush with his body. He dipped his head to my ear and whispered, "See? No one that looked at us right now would think we're friends." ------------------------------- When Savannah's long term boyfriend, Tripp, breaks up with her out of the blue before their annual summer lake vacation, she's devastated. Enter Wolf. He's the son of her parents' best friends, who happen to share a connecting lake condo. Savannah hasn't seen Wolf in two years since he stopped coming on family vacations. He's notorious for trouble, the exact opposite of Savannah. Wolf shows up one day and suggests that they pretend to be in a relationship during their two week vacation. He's convinced that his mom's adoration of "good girl" Savannah will change her mind about his recent house arrest. In exchange, Wolf suggests Savannah can use their fake relationship to lure Tripp back by making him jealous. Savannah is hesitant, but is just desperate enough for Tripp's attention that she agrees. Spending time with Wolf on their pretend dates becomes a problem when Savannah begins to have feelings for him. After all, Wolf is off limits. Her best friend has a major crush on him, and Savannah is supposed to be with someone sensible like Tripp, not the lead singer of the high school rock band, Wolf and the Midnight Shepherds. In the end, Savannah will need to decide if falling for Wolf is worth the consequences.
