It's amazing how things can change in an instant. I was the girl that just lived in Philadelphia all her life, the girl that blends in rather than pops out. All these summers I visited Rhode Island with my parents. We stayed there and lived next door to the Dukes, our local family friends. We go here ever year because my aunt loves it, she lives there. We spend as much time as possible with her , and I don't know what I would do without her.This summer was different. I had changed physically and mentally. I was no longer the girl with short cropped hair, who had a crush on Troy Duke. I was Shay Richards, a strong, independent, grown 16 year old. Well, thats what I've been chanting in the car. I remind myself that there is no need to be nervous, even though the Dukes are notoriously handsome boys, and I like one of them, it will all go smoothly. Like all these summers. I can blend in with no drama whatsoever. I was wrong, things can change in one summer, and this summer was going to be very different.

A delayed flight. A stranger at a hotel bar. A one night stand.
