Kaia stared at him, trying to process his words that seemed like they were in a different language.  

"No," she said simply before walking quickly out of the kitchen and down the hall toward the stairs. 
William caught her by the arm before she could take a step up. "Kaia, what you did in the alley was only the beginning."

"What are you talking about?" she asked, moving her arm out of his grasp. 

"You took out that last guy almost as easily as I subdued the first one." When she just continued staring at him like he was a crazy person, he went on, "Look, I know it's a lot. It sounds ridiculous but you know something has changed in you and it's going to keep changing."

A tear fell down Kaia's cheek. "I don't-- I don't understand."

"You will."
