Fourteen-year old Kyla Brooks has seen some disturbing stuff in her life. Being the Police Chief's daughter in the small town of Larkwood, Canada, she has seen everything from a high-stakes arrest to a hostage situation, but nothing compares to the dramatic and terrible crime she witnessed in the woods one day when she had been nine: the kidnapping and near-murder of a local boy she hadn't even known lived near her.

Now four years later, Kyla is eager to put what she had witnessed behind her and move on with her life.
