Eighteen-year-old Alaska Wood is a quiet, observant, smart girl who was born into the wrong situation. The only child of a seamstress and a woodcarver living in a small village in the Western kingdom. For the sake of her sick father Alaska agrees to be a mistress for King Oscar Hartley, whose wife has been unable to produce an heir. Isolated behind castle walls, Alaska's life has drastically changed.
After meeting the unreadable and intimidatingly handsome King Alaska finally understands that the role she has been subject to is more than she bargained for. In an unfamiliar world where the rich grasp at any chance to manipulate each other, powered by their greed for gold, Alaska has to watch her back.
But it hardly ends there...
