Raised around humans, taught to be your absolute best and to help and protect those who need it. You never tell your secret and you never use your gifts to harm people. But what if the gift you have is meant to bring destruction? What if you really have black magic and everything you thought you knew came crashing down?

Tatiana—Tait—Clearwater goes to a school with both humans and those like her who possess power. Her mother is the defense teacher, so it's expected for her to be powerful, but no one could have seen this coming.

The Shade is a group of black magic users that recruit those who have darkness in them. When the calling card of the Shade is branded at their school, no one could have predicted the outcome.
