Grayson is an orphaned teen, doing his best to survive in a world where each time another baby is born, someone is executed to ensure that their planet doesn't overpopulate. Just one year before, he had been invited into Edipeis. A school for the intelligent, which saved him from having his name entered into the computer. Guaranteeing that he would live a full life without the fear of execution. 

The last thing he remembers is walking through the gates on day one, leaving everyone he had come to know and love behind. Then he woke up New Years Eve of the following year, with his name displayed on the execution board.
