Sienna Diaz has lived the life of a nameless face, a retreater from threats, and a thief of lives. Every time she lights a match, she is transported to another world. Surviving as a woman with many pasts and identities, she can hardly call herself her own. Despite her desire for control, however, the fire -- her matches -- remain her only escape. But as a pawn to the universe and to the flames themselves, Sienna finds that escape is only a delay of the inevitable: a life of wandering and loneliness.

After an accident, another burnt match Sienna lands in a new world where Fire is an entity, a deity to its citizens. The opportunity is clear: overpower Fire and rewrite her identity. This time, starting afresh would be real and permanent. Settled. But this Fire is unpredictable and temperamental, worshipped by his priests and guarded in his own temple like a treasure.

When Sienna Diaz was younger and still lived in a place she remembered as Nevada, her parents told her to never play with fire. She agreed -- no, she would never play with it.

She would kill it.

The world’s old Gods lie dormant, imprisoned for centuries in a timeless rift. For many years they have accepted the fate of their actions, yet the people who still roam freely have not. A small sect of fanatical magicians, led by Bellack, a sinister and heartless spell weaver have not forgotten the powers that the old Gods once possessed and seek to secure their God Queen’s release to gain both her love and immortality. With the discovery of a large crystal deep in the Tanarian mines, the sect believes it has found a catalyst for their powers to break free their Queen. They will stop at nothing to acquire the crystal and, after their offers are refused, drag nations to war for their dark aim. Using their magic to tip the scales of war in their favour they force an order of Generals, the Su-Katii warrior elite to their will, as they alone will hold the key to victory in this war. Only Barrad a new initiate to the Su-Katii luckily escapes the brotherhoods control. The stage is set, but Tamar a renegade wizard, has subtly been working for years against their cruel plan. Seventeen-year-old Tia has always felt like an outsider. Despite being the daughter of the Grandmaster of the Magician's Order, she has grown up without the one thing that should define her: magic. At the age when every child in her world begins to manifest their powers, Tia remains stubbornly mortal, her magical potential unmanifested and her future uncertain. On the brink of being cast aside as non-magical, she feels the weight of her father's growing disappointment, and the distance between them becomes almost unbearable. But just when Tia's world seems on the verge of collapse, her nights are haunted by vivid, nightmarish dreams. In each one, a hooded figure appears-a man whose face remains hidden in shadow, but whose presence is unmistakably magnetic. He whispers of truths long buried, and every night, his voice draws her deeper into a dark and twisted reality that seems more real than any dream should be. As the dreams intensify, Tia feels an undeniable pull toward the hooded stranger. His presence offers her an answer to the emptiness inside her, a connection that feels impossible yet inescapable. But this is no ordinary man. With every encounter, the boundaries between them blur, and Tia begins to realize that this man might not just be a figment of her nightmares-but someone from the past, someone whose identity is tied to the very magic she thought she lacked. As Tia discovers a dark secret about her heritage-one that links her to ancient, lost magic-the hooded man becomes more than just a guide; he becomes something else entirely. Is the hooded man her salvation, or the harbinger of her downfall? And can the darkness within him-and within herself-lead to the light she desperately seeks, or will it pull them both into a pitfall too dangerous to survive?
