The small town, overlooking the coast of Maine, of Genesville, knew it would never be the same after a serial killer murdered 10 people, and just stopped without a trace. Jo Sanford has the perfect life working as a detective in the nearby city of New York, living with her kind boyfriend, Mark Manhattan. However, when she finds a dusty diary and a scratched record in her cellar, she begins to realise things are not as they seem in the Sanford family. A dinner party leaves Jo with some startling questions about her past, and she sets of to the changed town of Geneville to find answers. At first, the townspeople of Genesville are remarkable and caring. She is intrigued by the curiously witty psychiatrist, Oliver Kolwaski. However, after he introduces her to the new people of Genesville, Jo slowly finds herself drawn into a web of white collar fraud, arson, and perhaps, murder. Can Jo resist the charms of Doctor Kolwaski, and figure out the mystery of Genesville? Or will the townspeoples intentions and cries for help come in her way? Will Jo just be slid into the cellar, like every secret that Genesville has ever tried to cover up? Or will she use the light she knows she has, to find her way out?
