Set in future Unites States in the city of Richmond, the laws have changed. 17 years prior, the very controlling government changed its laws to where no talking or written forms of communication are allowed. Only certain official figures within each city are permitted to talk, there is even no talking within the school environment. 

Natalie Daniels, an 18 year old student, hates these laws. She thinks there is something the government is hiding from her and the rest of the citizens. She is somewhat of a rebel; she has hidden journals where she writes her thoughts and she joins a society to rebel. Natalie Daniels is anything but a law-abiding citizen.

Evelyn Sheer and the researchers are trying to create a genetic modification that enables humans to photosynthesize. Once in the facility, Evita is tagged as a test subject and loses all say over what happens to her body. She has to escape. By the time she comes up with a plan there is only one problem. Evita isn't ready to leave.
