[AMBASSADOR PICK] [SHORTLISTED #ONC 2020]

BLADE RUNNER + I, ROBOT

Decorated detective Gibson Shaw must work an AI mutilation case that's beneath him. The claw-like wounds of the AI mimic its ownership tattoo of a cat, but he dismisses that as coincidence. When more AI bodies litter Nova City with the same modus operandi, Shaw must bring the world's first serial killer of AI to justice before the killer targets humans, all without falling for his rookie partner.

Tattoo artist Nate Dough has always sensed the sorrow in others. By using drug-laced ink to alter his clients' moods, he creates happiness one tatt at a time. Except, it's the clients' AI showing emotion. When he discovers the mutilated AI are ones he tatted, he's dragged into an investigation that reveals more about himself than he ever imagined.

It's only when Shaw and Dough's worlds collide that the clues point to the real culprit.

#32. Ever since you were little, you've been able to see people's sorrow like a cloud hanging over their heads. Now it's coming in pretty handy in your job.

Trigger warning: sex, a little violence, murder, drug abuse, infidelity, chauvinism.

[ONC 2021 WINNER: 3rd place] When a car accident reveals a shocking secret even he didn't know about himself, an android finds himself hunted by his own husband. BioSynth is one half of a duology of novellas. Both follow the same sequence of events from different PoVs. BioSynth is Quentin's tale; SynTracker is Ian's. Collectively, they're known as Syn. ≡≡≡ Photographer Quentin Morgan has almost everything he could ask for. With a dream job that takes him all over the world, married to the love of his life for the past eight years, it's only his husband's line of work that leaves a bad taste in his mouth. Ian is a SynTracker, someone who hunts down BioSynths - obsolete yet incredibly dangerous synthetic self-aware weapons that can pass as humans - and returns them to the government, to be reprogrammed and repurposed. Quentin finds the job distasteful, but Ian says they're weapons, and weapons don't weep. A car crash that could have killed Quentin reveals the shocking truth: he, himself, is a BioSynth. Hurt, scared, and now hunted by the man he loves, who thinks him an impostor, Quentin is thrown into a suddenly hostile world, where the stakes are his very existence. ≡≡≡ BioSynth was written for the Open Novella Contest 2021 and is based on prompt #4: You're a weapon, and weapons don't weep. 100 years ago, amidst WW3's nuclear bombing, a deadly virus was released in the atmosphere and nearly wiping out the humanity. It lives inside the human brain thriving on the empathy receptors, leading to irrational behaviour and ultimately brain death. To slow the damage, scientists created L.O.V.E, short for Living Off Vital Emotions, a nanovaccine that numbs the virus and switches off all strong emotions. As a last resort and with a dying planet, the Supreme Government created the City, a place to contain the infected survivors suitable for the experiment. Those in the first stages of illness became ideal candidates to receive the neuroinhibitor. Having their feelings restrained and their memory altered, those who come of age are designated a life partner through a Selection process, thus preserving the humankind. A few decades after the trial had started, scientists had a major breakthrough. The nanites, which are highly chemically reactive organisms, are changing their bio-engineered purpose when dopamine levels are high. With a new generation of nanoids, stronger and smarter to fight the battle, the virus doesn't have a chance. Many attempts were made to create a man-made version of synthetic dopamine and each time the outcome was a disaster. Their goal is to create new generations, immune to the virus. These are called Purebloods, the offsprings of those who find pure love, the only cure to save them from a violent death. Running out of time, the Experiment entered in its final stages. To minimize the threats, the Colonies have sent their best soldiers to oversee the trial and protect its key subjects. If only things were going according to plan, or better...stay hidden. With Iron Guard, the resistance outside the walls, hunting the Purebloods too, will the trial save human race before it's too late? #3 in #dystopianfuture (27.06.2020)
Murder Drones Fanfiction (Post Absolute Solver Era) Book 1: A Home to Belong de LukasCliff

This story here embarks on a Disassembly Drone's journey to a new planet, away from the Solar System, and away from the drones she terrorized during her murder era. Serial Designation J, who is now an outcast to society, begins her adventure to move on from her traumatic past both as a loyal worker drone of her late friend Tessa, and her phase as a Murder Drone and Loyal servant to the Absolute Solver. She greatly struggles to fit in on a new planet as most of the robots are very different from those in Copper 9. One day, she met a drone much taller than the worker drones and about an average height of 151.9 cm (Bigger than the female disassembly drones, but not the male ones). He goes by the name of Sven, and he's going to help her learn the ways of living as a part of the worker society & the R.D.S. aka the Robotic Defense System. Then, she would meet up with other members of the team, and someday become friends with them. Could this be the only way she could move on from her past? or not? Reminders 1. Since Murder Drones belongs to Liam Vickers and the Glitch Productions, this story isn't canon, hence why it's considered fanfiction. 2. Serial Designation J, also belongs to Liam Vickers, therefore the character isn't mine. 3. This is my first experiment on writing fanfiction, since I'm more into writing my own stories. Though I would be glad to do so when I feel like it. 4. Props to Liam Vickers & Glitch Productions for creating Murder Drones and making it one of the best series ever known in Youtube.

"If you're brave enough to say goodbye, life will reward you with a new hello." - Paulo Coelho With that said, goodbye to the wrong woman in my life and hello to my reward-whoever she is... I owe my newfound thought process to the woman I befriended and become my best friend for life--Shiloh. She taught me many things. What she taught me the most was how to love, that I can love, and that I will love. My heart expanded like never before the day she had her little girl, and I was over the moon with how that moment made me feel--even though that moment cost me ten stitches to the forehead. I enjoyed the swelling feeling of my heart so much that it had me wishing I'd, too, find my soulmate. I never thought I'd hear the day for me to say I'd like to find that remarkable woman to settle down with for the rest of my life and wish to expand my family tree. But here I am, looking to do just that. The day Sawyer walked into my Tattoo parlor, my heart reacted in a way it never had before for any woman I crossed paths with. The beautiful blonde had my heart racing, my palms sweating, and the unit behind my pants twitching. I also felt nervous and feverish, which is not like me. And if that's what feeling in love feels like, then I'm determined to do whatever it takes to win her love. Cover artist: www.selfpubbookcovers.com/billwyc
