Eighteen-year-old Josephina's first day in jail feels like a joke. Her guard's name is Garda Girdle, like she's in a detective novel; the hottest guy (and hottest bit of gossip) is named Steak; her roommate, Shiv, introduces her to the weirdest match-making service in the world - it's called talking the bowl, or toilet talking, or toilet Tinder - where love notes are passed through the plumbing. Josephina just wants to get through her sentence. She doesn't want to find love, or "toilet talk," and she vows to never commit another crime as long as she lives... but she sends a few letters to Steak, just for entertainment. Then Steak's letters become more vulnerable: they both have absent parents, they both had a partner who abandoned them when they got locked up. Eventually, Steak confesses he's been forced off his ADHD medication and his thoughts are completely scattered - but the one thing he knows for sure is that he's fallen in love with Josephina. Desperate to maintain what's become the most meaningful connection in her life, Josephina concocts a plan to smuggle Adderall into jail for Steak...
