Takiyo Hamasaki has liked his childhood friend for quite a while now. However, his love remains unrequited, and he was alone; the kid who never talked to anyone. Then he met Yuko Nishikawa, a girl who suffers from social anxiety but is determined to make friends. Together, they agree to help each other with their respective unrequited loves. Forming bonds, Takiyo learns more about Yuko's past, along many other things, like how love can take more forms than one, and what it means to save someone. 
Everyone has their own battles to fight.

Another is that, it portrays the individuality among the characteristics of the two which is compared to Milk and Coffee : Takamichi being the "milk" who is calm, playful and liked by many, while Chisako is considered the "coffee" who is strong, energetic and only a few people would really appreciate her true self.
