NiNi is your typical East side girl from Cleveland - loud, funny, tough and street smart. Growing up in an environment plagued with generational curses NiNi swore to make a better life for herself and her family. She promised herself to graduate from college, to not get get caught in the wrong crowd, to travel, get a good job and most IMPORTANTLY to marry a black man with the hopes of creating a stable two parent household she never experienced growing up. Seems simple enough right?
Bo is a good boy with a bad streak or maybe a bad boy with a good streak. How the hell should he know? All he knows is to live life on the edge and to hold on to those near and dear to him. His whole life is his family, friends, admiring beautiful women, being proud of his strong Chinese heritage and its cultural traditions. In Bo's mind, " No one can do it better than the Chinese right? ". All the partying and abiding by social norms comes to a halt, when his path would cross paths with a doe eye brown skin beauty from the states that takes his mind and body by surprise. His loyalty to his culture his strong, but his curiosity might be a bit stronger. Through the arguments, fights and time spent apart, will Bo's cultural pride win or will his mind and soul succumb to understanding that black is the color of beauty.
Six years have passed and no word to each other. Still 4,000 miles away. Still deadly in love with each other.
Since the departure, Imani has proceeded her life as a podcast guest and traveling professional zoo aid and wildlife biologist in London. She still contacts all of her loved ones faithfully but Jake, however, not so much. In fact it's been five years since they've spoken directly to each other.
Meanwhile, Jake has proceeded his life with his best friends/band mates as a full on musician, songwriter, instrumentalist, and owner of a guitar shop/teaching center. Becoming internationally famous graced him with the opportunity to travel around the world, expand his musical talents, create a functioning business of his own and write and/or perform for some of everyones favorite artists. He meet all kinds of girls but is still writing for, singing for and longing for one in particular.
To any new readers I recommend reading the prologue for insight about the book and if you should read book 1 or not.
