Throughout the story (on even number chapters), Jake is plagued with flashbacks to his relationship with Y/N, his old friend, and ex girlfriend. If you are triggered by death and suicide, the even number chapters are pretty wholesome, so if you'd like you can just read those, but the whole story ties together. Amy is still on maternity leave and is itching to get back to work. Jake, on the other hand, is already back and working an uncrackable case with Charles. One night, Jake stays at the precinct late without realizing after promising to be home early. In a panicked hurry, he runs out of the precinct to get home as fast as he can, however before he can get in his car, he hears gunshots from outside the garage and goes to look. There he finds a man with a gun, one person being held with the barrel pointed at them and the other with a GSW in their leg.
