Sterilization refers to any process that eliminates or deactivates all forms of life (in particular referring to microorganisms such as fungi, bacteria, viruses, spores, such as Plasmodium, etc.) and other biological means like prions present in a particular surface or fluid, for example food or biological values media. 

Sterilization can be attained through various means, containing heat, chemicals, irradiation, filtration, and high pressure. It is separate from disinfection, sanitization, and pasteurization, as those methods reduce rather than remove all procedures of life and biological causes present. After sterilization, an object is mentioned to as being sterile or aseptic.
