This is an excerpt from my English literature portfolio I created in University a few years back!
This poem was inspired by Neil Gaiman's "Instructions", as I was intrigued by the simplicity yet creativity of the poem, as it was plain instructions with a variety of surreal elements in them.
The idea of the poem comes from starting smoking, and the light and darkness it brings to people's lives. I also mention about weed, which is also applicable to any other drug usage in people's lives.

The Night Sky is in Her Veins
// s o n d e r \\ - "the realisation that each random passerby is living a life as vivid and complex as your own" Life can be dark, cold and lonely. Feeling betrayed, misunderstood, chewed up and spat out by the world, its when I get sonder, that I realise I might not be as alone as I thought. This is my autobiography, in a series of harsh and delicate words, painted as a story. Includes drugs, sex, alcoholism, depression, anxiety, self harm, suicidal tendencies, assault and other hard topics, so read at your own discretion. THIS IS THE TRIGGER WARNING. I wrote it, with the intention that, if there are people in the world who feel alone and misunderstood just like me, and can benefit in any way by relating to my stories in my poems, then I have done at least one thing right. Petals of my moonflower
Red isn't always romance, sometimes it's blood, Moon isn't always for lovers, but sometimes for secret cries, Flowers aren't always for marriage, but sometimes for grave, Petals aren't always soft, sometimes they prick the soul. No plagiarism/No hatred plz. Also some things might contain mature contents like self harm. I want to say those kinds of suicidal poems are not to inspire anyone to self harm. I'm strictly against self harm myself. Those thoughts are just a means to release myself. "I can't write like this," I pointed out. "Is this all you care about?" Ryan asked. I shrugged. "Not this specifically, but yeah, I care about my grades." Ryan smirked. I swallowed nervously but refused to break my stoic expression. He leaned closer to me, my heart pounding so hard against my chest it felt like it might break out and fall on the table between us. His mouth was right by my ear, and I could feel his warm breath when he spoke which sent shivers down my spine. Hey y'all 🧍♂️ this is my first published story so. Please don't bully me. Uh so ig this is a first girl at Welton type thing?? Maybe a Charlie Dalton love story?? Here's an excerpt 😌 Claire smiled and looked over to Charlie, "Go brush your teeth, we can do the other half of the experiment, now," He nodded vaguely before disappearing back into his room. Claire prepared a Petri dish and swab and Charlie came into her room soon with a pack of cigarettes and a lighter. "I only smoke one, right?" "Just one," she replied, sitting on her bed. Charlie nodded and sat at her desk, lighting up, "You want one?" "No, thanks," He lit a cigarette and took a drag, "Why don't you smoke?" "I know there's a smoker inside of me somewhere and I don't want to let her out," Charlie closed his eyes for a moment, "There's a smoker... there's a smoker inside you?" "You heard me, Dalton," "Okay, but- but that doesn't make sense," Claire shrugged, "Sure it does. You can't possibly know everything about someone, Charlie. You don't even know everything about yourself. I smelt something calming, like the smell of rain and vanilla and suddenly, a guy came in charging at Gabriel. Gabriel didn't have any time to react as he was knocked to the ground. I stared at them in shock as I backed away, not knowing what to do. " Leave him alone! " I yell at the stranger throwing my hands in the air. This gets the guys attention and I notice the aura around him, telling me he's an Alpha. He starts stalking towards me as Gabriel struggled to get up, " Run Reagan! " I ran into a wall behind me causing me to fall and put my hand on my head in pain. I felt tingles on my arm as a hand was placed on my arm. I noticed it was the stranger as he made me face towards him. He crouched down at eye level as he stared into my ocean blue eyes with his sincere chocolate brown eyes. My eyes widened when he said the word that I've been dying to hear since I was a little girl. " Mate. " Reagan's been dreaming of finding her mate since she learned about them. Her twin brother found his a few weeks ago and Reagan's been dying to find her equal. What happens when she find out her mates the cold hearted Alpha that she's been told cruel stories about.
