When Polaris was a little girl, she watched the first space probe reach the star system of Alpha Centauri. Growing up, she dreams of one day being able to travel to its planets, unravelling its mysteries. This goal becomes her life's purpose, and every choice she makes in the hopes that it will take her one step closer. Many years, obstacles, and sacrifices later, only one step separates her from her destination. But could it be, that she was always closer than she realized?

This is the journey of the Tellus XII manned mission to Alpha Centauri. The mission will bring man even further into the universe as well as the future; and even closer to answering the lingering question: Are we alone?

Tellus is my first go with the science fiction genre, and I honestly spend more time researching than actually writing, but the science is probably still going to be off. So please bare with me. Also, any comments and critiques will only help improve my writing, so don't be shy - share your thoughts.

This is my contribution to the Open Novella Contest 2020, prompt #28. Wish me luck!

[Ex Map to Anywhere] [LONGLIST ONC2020] When humanity is threatened by extinction, two enemies have to work together. She's the last Seer, with the most painful job imaginable. He's the commander of the last human outpost, with the heaviest responsibility to bear. She's totally shameless, respects nothing and no one. He's respected by everyone else as a god amongst men. No wonder they'd gladly kill each other. But they can't. They have to save mankind. And, surprisingly, each other. ~32K words ~~~ Open Novella Contest 2020 - Longlisted Featured: - WP Romance's Worlds Apart reading list - WP Fantasy's Romantasy readig list ~~~ Reviews: "The romance in the book isn't too cheesy, which is very unlike other romance books, but in a good way." The Belles Lettres Awards "Absolutely mind blowing! The plot is just as well executed as it seems to have been planned, though only the author can really know that. It truly is a science-fiction adventure!" The Mono Awards "I absolutely love the banter between Auberon and the Seer. And I love the concept. It's very well thought out and executed even better than I thought it could have. Something I would definitely recommend to others. Love it. Absolutely love it." The Sakura Awards "The very first word, emotional mapping had drawn me in from the very start. The plot was very intriguing and it was so mysterious from the start. It was very enjoyable." ❖ Interstellar pilot and ex-adventurer Alex Gallegos must keep their team safe on an icy moon as sentient storms threaten to repeat the tragedy that ended their last career. ❖ Everyone in the United Inhabited Solar Systems (for some reason, UIS for short) knows to stay away from Mahaha. The icy moon is notorious for failed probe landings and research missions that end in tragedy: the only people to ever venture to its surface needed rescuing after just two weeks. When a prestigious research group decides they want a turn, they ask Alex Gallegos to lead the team. Perfectly qualified and haunted by their past, Alex accepts, hoping to make up for old mistakes and get just a little further from the earth they've left behind. Two months into the seven-month mission, the team is struggling with discontent, damaged equipment, and blizzards acting less and less like normal weather. As Mahaha moves out of range of help and the storms take on a more malicious character, Alex must face the one foe they could never have prepared for. Mahaha may or may not be alive. ❖❖❖ Complete. Wattys 2021 Shortlister. Standalone sequel (Rocks Can Dance) coming in 2023. Comments and critiques are both welcome and appreciated. I write characters from many different backgrounds, with many different experiences. If you share those traits and find that I have misrepresented anything, please let me know! I am feedback-friendly and here to learn :)

In order to embark on a mission to discover alien life on the icy moon of Jupiter Maria must leave her life on Earth behind, including her father and her seven-year-old son Diego. She thought the hardest part of the mission would be saying goodbye, but little does she know what awaits her and her crew on Europa, an environment that has never been explored from the surface until this mission. Perhaps alien life was never meant to be explored by humans... Will she fulfill her promise to her father and son to make it home alive, or will she fail to make good on that promise like her mother did when she was a little girl? Note: This story was written during a challenge to write an entire book in one week! I vlogged the whole process on my YouTube channel (Patrick Procrastinates Writing), my Instagram (@memesforwriters), and my TikTok (@memes4writers). Be sure to check those out if you want a behind the scenes on my writing process behind this project! I will continue to work on Europa, but I will not update this version as it shows what I was able to accomplish in the seven days of the challenge. Please let me know what you think (don't be afraid to be mean).
