'Kori looked around, trying to find the source of the rustling before it stopped. That's when she spotted the yellow cat-like eyes. She stared at them, moving back. The creature made a low, rustling growl, inching forward slowly. When it spoke, it was sickly sweet, like a purr from an angry cat. "Daughter of Hades," Kori suddenly realized she knew that soothing voice and aimed her arrow at the eyes. The creature chuckled. "No, sweet child. It will take more that a pesky arrow to defeat me. Besides," the creature emerged, a thick void of black shaped into a large cat. "I know where Ember is."'

Hades and Hekate created a powerful stone to hold a rare species of flames called Ember. Once created, Hades entrusted the stone with a human he fell in love with. 18 years after the creation of the stone, Hekate is missing, the Protector is dead and the stone disappears. Dryads are female nymphs that inhabit forests and trees. Along the way with the help of Laelap and a runaway Titan, Rostris comes along life-threatening challenges like being close to Ekho but then missing her, dealing with Hera, Zeus's wife, that is trying to kill Ekho out of jealousy because Zeus likes to consort with nymphs and will stop at nothing to do it, and also being targeted by Ekho's daughter Lynx, who can make spells and will stop at nothing to kill Rostris. But what the real test is that is presented to Rostris is trust. Trusting herself and others because trust can go a long way.

But things only get worse when one day, as Kore is picking flowers in the meadow, there is an earthquake and she is taken up by this earthquake and falls into the arms of none other than Hades. A modern re-imagining of the story of Persephone.
