Mel has been living in New York for five years. After her last failed relationship she decided to take a break from the hustle and bustle and visit her brother. They had never been the closest, but feeling miserable on her own was not an option and hanging out with him had always been a good distraction.

Sebastian has been friends with Miguel for two years and would visit him whenever he found himself somewhere in Texas. This time around he gets to meet the infamous adventurous sister that everyone keeps talking about. When he learns more about her current self he gets that feeling to protect her.
