Mia Diamanté had it all.
She had money.
She had fame.
She had family.
She had followers.
She had love.
But she threw it all away, for her freedom.

It's not that easy though. She didn't just give all that away, she also had to give up her life.

Including her name.

And thus, Briar Scott was born and Mia Diamanté was gone. Metaphorically speaking anyway.

----

Mia's plan worked perfectly for a full year. She changed her habits, photoshopped pictures, changed her image in the public, and now it was time for the last step. She moved to the Midwest for college, in hopes to lay low. Kansas University to be exact, where her brothers favorite collegiate basketball team resided from.

While she lives in her dorm, joins the dance team, and makes friends of her own, she meets Noah Kingston. Noah is a very popular guard on the basketball team for his talent and looks, and Mia is immediately interested. Unfortunately, Noah's girlfriend is in the way of Mia making her move.

And that doesn't cover the odd feeling Mia has of someone following her and tracking her every move. The mysterious things happening around her. Something is dangerously wrong and she doesn't have her bodyguards with her all the way in Kansas.

Meet Violet Summers. She's the sarcastic girl who doesn't really ever get noticed by anyone. She blends into any crowd because of how "normal" she is. And she loves it. She wouldn't be able to stand the attention of everyone around her. That's why she won't tell Ryan Bloore, her crush for three years, that she practically worships the ground he walks on. Ryan is the captain of the basketball team at their school, so guys see him like he's a god and girls act like he walks on water. If they were to date, all eyes would be on her- she would be under everyone's scrutiny. So she's kept her feelings a secret, and she's done her best to suppress her emotions these past years, but she's realized that she's been so caught up in making people not notice her that she didn't realize how lonely she would be when no one was watching. Now meet Ryder Knight. School bad boy. Quarterback captain and heartthrob. The kind that wears a leather jacket and has tattoos all over his arms. The one who shows up to school riding a motorcycle. Just your average run of the mill "if you get involved with this guy, you will meet some serious trouble" kind of male. Well, too bad for Violet, she's stuck with him now. After all of the years of pushing away her feelings for Ryan because of her fear of being seen, she is now all anyone can look at- because of Ryder. Because of him, she can feel their stares, and she hates him for it. The longer they spend time together, the more Ryder starts to realize he actually enjoys being around her-despite her snarky comments about how much she despises him. And if Violet is being completely honest with herself, she's also starting to realize she might not actually hate the fact that people are noticing her now, but hate the way Ryder makes her feel.

Just then, I noticed Mia moving closer, seemingly oblivious to our tension. She reached out, a playful smile still on her lips. "Luna! Come back and dance with me!" Sera's eyes flashed with anger, her expression shifting to something fierce and protective. "No," she said, her voice dangerously low. "Stay here." Mia hesitated, sensing the shift in the air. "Just a dance," she said, her smile fading slightly. "Back off," Sera snapped, her voice rising as she glared at Mia. "I'm serious. She's with me." "Come on, Sera," I interjected, trying to diffuse the situation. "It's just dancing." But Sera was already stepping forward, her eyes fixed on Mia with an intensity that sent a chill down my spine. "I don't care who you are. Stay away from her." Mia's playful demeanor evaporated, replaced by confusion and concern. "I didn't mean any harm," she said, raising her hands defensively. Sera took a menacing step closer, her voice a low growl. "I won't warn you again." Before I could react, Sera's hand shot out, and she pulled a small gun from her jacket, aiming it toward the floor near Mia's feet. The loud bang echoed through the venue, and guests turned to stare, their laughter dying instantly. "Get lost," Sera spat, her eyes blazing with fury. Mia stumbled back, shock written across her face as she turned and quickly walked away. I was frozen, my heart racing in my chest. "Sera, what the hell?!" Sera lowered her weapon, but her eyes remained locked on the spot where Mia had stood. "You don't understand," she said, her voice strained. "I won't let anyone come near you like that." I was reeling, caught between disbelief and anger. "You can't just scare people like that! This is insane!" There is a very thin line between obsession and love and not knowing that can definitely complicate things. Read to find out
