Lucy is a twelve year old girl who just wants her Mum to come out of hospital. Her dad has brought a new country house but it smells of mould and looks like a dumpster. Lucy is determined to make it perfect for her Mum who suffers from Multiple Sclerosis. However, their new house seems to be cursed: wall paper scrapers fly across the room, the cleaning mop chases them around the house, paint is catapulted into Grandma’s face and the floors howl every time they feel a scrubbing brush. Lucy and Claire find out that beneath this rural community there is a hidden world of magic. Lucy and Claire have got to find Sally Long Arms who is the only one who can lift the spell from their house. Meanwhile, their mum’s condition gets worse and so when they do find Sally Long Arms they see an opportunity and beg Sally to make their mum better. But their Mum doesn’t want this. Lucy is faced with the moral grey area: is it right to help someone when that someone says no?
