From the Ashes: Strike the Spark

The crackle of flames broke through the silence. Thin wisps of smoke wafted into his nostrils as the heat coaxed him awake. He gagged as the acrid taste pooled in his lungs, sending him into a fit of coughing. Somewhere nearby, he heard the rubble shift, and someone called out his name. He'd never been a big believer in fate or destiny, but now he couldn't help but to hope it was on their side. The voice cried out again, this time further away. It echoed across the flames. He had to believe that they were there for a reason. They had made it this far. He had found brothers he'd never expected to have, and he would fight like hell to keep them safe from his mistake. After all, two souls don't find each other by simple accident.
