Jack Wallace assumed a zombie apocalypse would forever be contained to books and movies, just another metaphor for the human condition or next multi-million franchise. So when an actual outbreak decimated over 75 percent of the world population, it quickly stopped being a metaphor and became very real. One year after the outbreak, the U.S. Government assisted in rounding up the infected into Dead Zones. Two years after the outbreak, people began leaving the desolate Army refugee camps to take their chances outside the rusted chain link fences. Now three years after the outbreak Scavengers survive in their outposts, salvaging what they can and thriving outside of Army control. When Jack is assigned to a routine deployment to the Miami Dead Zone, he was not expecting to be ordered to spy on the current head of the Scavenger leadership.
