Where do people go when they die?

Maddox doesn't know the answer to that question, but he does know how they get there.

Maddox's sole purpose in life, if you can even call it that, is to deliver those who are dying to their final destination.

While most who live the same existence as him are perfectly content, Maddox finds it dreadful.

He is forced to watch thousands of people surround themselves with friends, family, and loved ones in their last moments, while he knows he can't have any of those things.

When people are dying, they are subconsciously pulled into a vehicle of their choosing filled with anyone they want. It is Maddox's job to make sure the trip goes smoothly and to make sure they reach their final destination without any hiccups on the way. For some people, it can take days, for others it can take minutes, it just depends on how much fight they have in them.

Every day is the same for Maddox. He steps over to some soon-to-be corpse and watches and they laugh and cry with their fake, subconsciously generated passengers.

While trying to pull a young girl trapped in a coma to her final stop, everything changes for Maddox. The girl fights back, causing a glitch in the system, and Maddox finds himself in the drivers seat.
