Artemis hated council meetings. Most of the time it was just Zeus and Poseidon arguing over who was the better father. So, Artemis decided to leave this one early.

Percy Jackson almost died. Almost. Just before Luke killed Kronos, Kronos threw back bitter at Percy. Everybody thought that he was dead. He didn't know that. But what he did know was that his mother and stepfather had died. He couldn't live without them so he
decided to go to Olympus and ask for death.
