“Time waits for no man.”
He looked at me with eyes as dark as the night around us. I took a step back, the heels of my boots skimming the doorway behind me. Suddenly he was right in front of me. I jerked back, flattening my hands against the gritty brick to my back. With nowhere left to go, I was forced to stand still as he leaned in even closer, turning so the entire left side of my body was engulfed in his fiery body heat. Slowly, he lowered his head and brushed his lips against my ear lobe.
“You’re assuming again,” he murmured, lowering his voice so I could barely hear him above the sounds of the forest.
My breath came out in a low gasp; I’d forgotten to breathe when he corned me. I turned my head to the side and ignored the fear rattling my bones. It took me a minute to unclench my teeth enough to speak through them. “Assuming what?”
He grinned and leaned in so we were nose to nose. “That I’m human.”
