Jeremy is a sucker for paintings, good or bad, when he needs to cover bare walls. When his family moves into his grandfather's old home he takes it as an opportunity to reclaim artwork lost to the attic. The search begins but one thing stands in his way: an intriguing box. It turns out the Bertie Mansion has more hidden inside than mediocre paintings. He can delve into the secrets of the home and risk learning information long since buried, or continue on his original mission and risk leaving the past uncovered when it is due time to let it see light. Whichever path he picks, the ball has already started rolling and it's only a matter of time. --- Word Count: ~27,000 WARNING: Minor character death in scene The 2020 prompts #33 and #64 were used in the making of this novella.
