In the continent of Thedas, the country of Ferelden has been plagued with a Blight, an apocalypse lead by a corrupted dragon and its army of diseased warriors. The Grey Wardens - guardians who are made to defend the land against this Blight - are called to arms, but are betrayed by someone from within their inner circle, spawning a civil war.
With the Grey Wardens in Ferelden all but obliterated, the task of destroying the Blight and saving Thedas is left to Zetheria Tabris, an elf who is at the very bottom of the social ladder not only because of her race, but her magic as well, and her brother Jaiden, a rogue who is a fugitive for accompanying his sister in raiding a human-owned castle. Told from the mind of Zetheria, this is a tale of their plight, the romance and heartbreak that was intertwined with the burden of the Grey Warden, and personal struggle. A young Dalish girl's clan is slaughtered by Tevinter mages but they take the girl as a slave and burns Lyrium into her skin. (Yes, like a certain angsty porcupine we know.)
