This play is about 3 best friends at Proverbs High-school going into their Junior year in the '80s of Spring Hill, Florida. One of the African American descent (Taivon Taylor), one of the Hispanic descent (Marcus Mendez) and one of the Caucasian descent (Derek Davis). Join them and experience the friendship and how it will be tested, along with the interracial relationships they try to pursue and the trials and tribulations that follow them. Welcome to the Multi-Cultural life between 3 timid friends. Will they find romance in their High-school crush or just the trouble that lurks nearby?
Through online research of the history and culture of Spring Hill, I found out that the county starts up on August 14th. I just so happens to be lead with Caucasian (including White Hispanic), Non Hispanic White and then Hispanic (or Latino). There just so happens to be a quintessential few of the African American descent.
Just for the fun of it, I found myself going through the whole Bruno Mars 24K Album and imagining how I could set up each song into a Musical. With some motivation from my Father during a trip down to South Carolina for the Thanksgiving Break of 2017 Timid was born.
My name is Steven Hall. At this moment, I am a graduating Senior Music Recording Technology Major with a Minor in Theater from Hampton, University. I would like to formally introduce to you the first play I have written. I have had the pleasure to work this through for a few years with the help of Susan Chavez and Tyree Champion. How bad could it be to enlist your female best friend into helping you lie to your Christian family about your new relationship with your male best friend and about your newfound sexuality? Not that bad, right? Right??? --------- Nova Queen and Arizona "Ari" Matthews weren't always close in high school, but after an intense and serious conversation in the library one day, the two become the best of friends until they go their separate ways their freshman year of college. Now in their mid 20s and freshly out of grad school, they are reunited in the park of their hometown where Ari asks a huge favor of Nova that she later wishes she had refused. But in the end, will she really wish she had refused? *FA spans a timeline from 2010-2020 to help the reader see how the relationships were built between characters in a partial series of flashbacks. It also helps the reader to really see into the minds of Arizona and Nova as they age, and the effect different life events have on them. It Started in Spanish
Anthony stops at my bare shoulder and leans down to press a hot kiss onto the skin. "You can't say things like that.." He delivers another, this one to my collarbone and making my words grow weak, unconvincing ... even as they come from my own mouth. "We're supposed to be ... friends." Anthony is quiet at first, the only response I get being his free hand drifting over to cage my body into the small space between us. "I know .." He trails off. It goes dead silent for a second. "But I ... don't think that's enough for me, B." There's a sharp breath from me at the words and a flush of heat to my cheeks when Anthony pushes my hair over my shoulder. His actions expose me to him, showing off my bare shoulders in a way that's downright indecent as the straps pulled down now hang loosely off my arms. "I don't want .. to be just a friend to you." And then, there's another kiss to pair. Although it isn't a simple peck this time. It's an actual kiss now, slow and softly pressed onto my neck. Beatrix thought she'd never trust another guy again. After being burned, both physically and emotionally by her ex-boyfriend Rudy in her senior year of high school, Beatrix's trust in people is low. That is, until she transfers to the esteemed, private Highland University. It's a fresh start to give the girl what she wants most: A shot at normalcy. The plan is simple .. just keep her head down, study her ass off, try to become a functional person once again and hopefully make one friend or two. Everything was supposed to start over that year. She'd had high hopes of starting anew and faithfully prepared to blend in to the background. And the day goes well. Until she sits down in Spanish, where she meets Anthony Gamaro.
