I pause for a minute and look at the house. It was all dark inside except for the flashing of the television I could see through the curtains. "Okay then," I say. "I'll wait here until I know you get inside safely." Maddi nods her head and opens the rusty gate which squeaks as she moves it. She carefully turns around and closes it before walking off. She opens the door and closes it slowly. I check my phone and see that it's 10:12. I'm assuming her curfew was 10:00, if she had one, and that is why she's being so cautious. I wait a few seconds before turning away and walking off, but immediately stop when I hear an alarming noise. It sounded like a plate crashing followed by a scream.
