In October of the year 2019, a virus was discovered by doctors in Salt Lake City, Utah. This is what happened;
One week ago, in the state of Utah in the United States of America, a virus like infection was discovered, the virus can be transferred through a scratch, a bite and in some cases, blood to skin contact. It takes 24 hours for the infection to take its full effect, and causes those infected to lose all consciousness of their actions. Some call it the beginning of a Zombie Apocalypse, others say it's just a virus that spreads like a plague.
Within a week, the virus had spread to the neighboring states: Arizona and Colorado. Eventually, the lone survivor of the first of many massacres was able to broadcast a Country-wide warning. To sum it up, Nobody is safe alone, stick to groups, gather supplies while you still can... And stay alive. There may be a cure out there, as this is something that has to due with the brain. It's up to you to save the world.

Into the Madness
The world we knew is no more. It's all started with a strange illness spread through sporadic means, incredibly virulent and deadlier than anything human's recorded history could remember. People exposed to those spore turned into living corpses in less than a minute, instinctively preying over the healthy ones with unsatiable hunger. Quickly overwhelmed by the situation, world governments lost control of the majority of their national territories. Whether by pragmatism or pure selfishness, millions of individuals were abandoned by those who swore to protect them. Authoritarian governments were established to protect the new elites and those useful to their cause. Fortune settlements were built all around the world by those who were abandonned, fighting for the meager resources left behind. Mysterious organizations rose in prominence, aiming to become the leader of this new world order. Amidst of this madness, a man going by the name of Aether unlocked the military system, a mysterious technology capable of changing the fate of the entire world.
Anarchy on Earth
First, the video came. Just 2 months after is was taken off. The next day MeToob shut down. The day after that the internet stopped working. Then the power left. Then, came the virus. It infected everyone that came in bodily contact with it. 100 years ago, amidst WW3's nuclear bombing, a deadly virus was released in the atmosphere and nearly wiping out the humanity. It lives inside the human brain thriving on the empathy receptors, leading to irrational behaviour and ultimately brain death. To slow the damage, scientists created L.O.V.E, short for Living Off Vital Emotions, a nanovaccine that numbs the virus and switches off all strong emotions. As a last resort and with a dying planet, the Supreme Government created the City, a place to contain the infected survivors suitable for the experiment. Those in the first stages of illness became ideal candidates to receive the neuroinhibitor. Having their feelings restrained and their memory altered, those who come of age are designated a life partner through a Selection process, thus preserving the humankind. A few decades after the trial had started, scientists had a major breakthrough. The nanites, which are highly chemically reactive organisms, are changing their bio-engineered purpose when dopamine levels are high. With a new generation of nanoids, stronger and smarter to fight the battle, the virus doesn't have a chance. Many attempts were made to create a man-made version of synthetic dopamine and each time the outcome was a disaster. Their goal is to create new generations, immune to the virus. These are called Purebloods, the offsprings of those who find pure love, the only cure to save them from a violent death. Running out of time, the Experiment entered in its final stages. Zombies were said to be impossible, that they'd never happen, well obviously whoever said that had underestimated human curiosity. It started with the melting of the Poles, which uncovered diseases that hadn't been seen in millennia. Obviously, when a flesh-eating parasitical virus was found, scientists in all their glory decided to study it, which led to the greatest calamity in human history. Warning: This is the original book 1, it is now considered more of a prelude/building character relationships arc than a book. This provides backstory and sets the foundation for the characters and their relationships.
