After the Pale King awakes after the end of the infection, he plans to continue to use Void to create more Hollow Knights to occupy and rule Hollownest with an iron fist. But Ghost, Hornet, The Hollow Knight, and plenty of other bugs don't want a coward of a king that abandoned his own subjects to rule them, so they choose to form a new kingdom. With Ghost as the new king.
