You don’t think that you’re suddenly going to be forced to give up your entire life to steal back the Summer Queen’s crown while you’re drinking a cup of coffee in the morning. And you certainly don’t think about visiting a place that doesn’t even exist and becoming a hero.
Those things just happen. Unannounced. No warnings whatsoever.
And they only happen once every Millennium. So is it a good thing or a bad thing if you are one of the sought after Heroes?

My life used to be pretty boring. Everything was average. Normal family, normal looks, normal house, normal job, normal life. When I found out it was too late to save myself. To think and in less than 4 days I will be taken away from my current home and be in a home of my own. I sat on the simple wooden bed hoping that my owner was nice and kind. I hated to think about some of the stories that I heard about the other girls like me. I hated thinking about being exterminated because I made my owner unhappy. I thought to myself that I would try real hard to keep him happy. I remember the covenant of rules that would keep me and my owner happy. I would need to follow five rules. 1. Always obey my owner. 2. Always be available to my owner. 3. Never talk back. 4. Always agree with my owner. 5. I am not human so I cannot do human things. I wondered how pretty human women were. I was so nervous about my departure I nearly refused to leave my room. I could leave if there wasn’t anything wrong with me physically. I remember the den mother telling me not to do anything that would cause a refund or else I would be exterminated upon refund. My new owner had thirty days to return me. If he returned me and no one else was interested I would be exterminated. Though that smile did not reach his eyes at all. "One, don't resign and stay here forever..." His gaze was enough to unnerve me. "Two, let me kill those who dared to give you the idea of resigning...then don't go and stay here forever." No, haven't I already made sure that the villain has become a little more normal!? ...What the heck is going on!? He shouldn't be like this!

I don't get it. I really don't. I died, I get that much. But waking up in a dark and squishy place, with absolutely NO ROOM to move, I DON'T GET. Let's recap. It was a regular day. I got up, ate, showered and went to work. I was a police officer. I was checking out a house call about domestic abuse. I didn't even get to knock on the door before a man bursted out screaming at a women about calling the pigs on him. It didn't take much to figure out he was the abuser with the way he was holding her arm tight enough to bruise. I tried to diffuse the situation, told him to calm down and let her go. He didn't like that. In the end I got shot and died. Then I woke up in a small and dark space and freaked out. Then I get pushed out only to cry and realize I'm a baby.
