Iceland woke in a panic. Why had he remembered that now? He shivered as a sharp cold flooded over him, though it felt as his chest was on fire. "No...that was a long time ago, it doesn't matter now..." he tried to convince himself. "I should have never done that..."
This is based on the Death Theory - if you are unfamiliar, the Hetalia Death Theory is that the countries were once human, died, and woke up as a personification. I was doing a group role-play and this idea came to mind, and @peachykristopher on Instagram thought it would be good as a fanfic. Also, thanks to him for the parts involving Hanatamago! Is the clown the fool of the story, or are you? After all, the clown knows it's an act, but the audience is so lost in it that they tend to forget. Alfred had lived a long life. He'd learned a lot in it. That England was easy to gaslight if you knew what you were doing. France would back away from any show of force. Germany could ignore a bumbling idiot even as the evidence piled up just because he wasn't very good with people. Poland saw everything and read people like a book. Prussia would keep his mouth shut if you gave him enough liquor or made him obedient. Russia would turn a blind eye if you turned one to him. China never trusted anyone even if there was evidence of the contrary.
