They were complete opposites. At a young age they formed a bond that no one was able to understand. It was unusual especially, in the mafia. They weren't supposed to trust anyone but, they did.

Olexei was a survivor. He was ruthless and unforgiving. From the time he was a child he has always been this way. Patience was a virtue and he had none unless it was with Ryder.

Ryder was a boss, a don in the making. He didn't have time for trivial things like relationships. So, everyone wondered why he kept a animal like Olexei around but, they couldn't understand.
