The Board rules over every life in Mistlyn and exiles those who disobey. Desperate to save a friend from a death sentence, Anastasia determines to do the one thing she fears the most: fight back.

Anastasia, like everyone else in Mistlyn, lives behind a mask twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week. No one must ever remove their mask out of fear of being exiled into unclaimed territory. Drones patrol the town day in and day out, recording citizens' every move. They document any and all broken rules and send them to The Board. Behind the guise of free will, they control every life of Mistlyn, shaping every soul into identical copies of one another. The general population obeys without a second thought. Those who don't are sent to The Stand where they must try to convince a room of fifteen people that they deserve to be released without punishment. When Anastasia begins to hear rumors of a group attempting to overthrow The Board, she finds herself swept up into the frontline of a rebellion.
