This novel follows the story of an aspiring Filipino lawyer who sought justice for the helpless. This coming-of-age story narrates the life of Nikolai Yael A. Escobar, his ups and downs, his relationships, and his journey in becoming a hero.
This book came to be a project for English class, but this novel is much more than a mere literature curriculum requirement. The authors, Brenna Garcia, Charles Gomez, Paula Rivera, Keneth Abello, and Riego Pama, conceived this story by keen observation of the contemporary Philippine society. This shares their perspective of how the so-called system works, and how one can strive for constant and beneficial change. Written in the years 2019 and 2020, this novel provides a spectacle of the 21st century Philippines from the eyes of an impoverished boy with big dreams.

Eight years ago, Liam Alcaraz walked out of Mia Villaruiz's life without a backward glance-leaving her with nothing but a shattered heart, unanswered questions, and the memory of the boy who once made her believe in forever. Now, Liam is one of the youngest, most powerful, and most desired CEOs in the country. And Mia? She's no longer the quiet, outcast girl he once dismissed. She's the bar exam's number one passer, a corporate lawyer whose name alone makes seasoned executives sweat-fearless, sharp, impossible to intimidate. When fate drags her into his boardroom, Liam's billion-dollar empire becomes her biggest case-and her biggest test. Vale, the firm's legendary senior partner, makes it clear: if Mia can bend the unbreakable Liam Alcaraz, she'll earn her place as their youngest partner. But boardroom battles aren't the only sparks flying. Every heated exchange drips with the kind of tension that makes breathing difficult. Every glance lingers too long. Every accidental brush of skin threatens to reignite the wildfire they once swore to bury. Liam is determined to prove he's not the same man who broke her. Mia is determined to remind him she's not the same girl he left behind. But in a world where pride is power and desire is dangerous, old wounds reopen, truths shatter illusions, and the line between love and hate blurs until only one truth remains- Some temptations are impossible to resist. And some hearts never truly let go. ------------------------------------------------------------------ Disclaimer: This is a work of fiction. A coming-of-age Taglish drama that follows the intertwined lives of three brilliant students - Caelan Villaruel, the charismatic achiever, Kairo Elian, the soft-eyed nonchalant thinker, and Althea Andria Reyes, the emotionally strong and morally grounded center of their friendship. The story begins in 2003, during their second year of junior high, where their paths first cross in a prestigious school known for cultivating excellence and pressure in equal measure. Each of them bears their own silent struggles beneath the surface of perfect grades and top honors - unspoken expectations, personal demons, and fragile dreams. But what starts as a beautiful friendship built on shared brilliance slowly begins to fracture as they grow older, enter college, and eventually face the world beyond the classroom. The day of their graduation, things are no longer as simple as before - and one of them is about to snap. What if the smartest people are also the ones who hide the deepest scars? What if brilliance... isn't enough to save what matters most? In a world where intelligence is celebrated but emotions are hidden, where pressure weighs heavier than failure, how far can friendship go before it breaks? And when it does... can it still be saved?
