Madeline is stuck, trapped on the small island off the Washington coast where she was born. Feeling tied to her duty to her father and his struggling restaurant, she cannot begin to count all that she has given up in favor to this duty--men, friends, dreams.

Marshall arrives on the island in a blur of escapism and avoidance. Broken-hearted and feeling unable to live up to his father's wishes for him to join the family law firm and fading away in the shadow of his superstar older brother, he sees a chance to get away and he takes it.

Madeline and Marshall quickly form an irreplaceable, inescapable bond but soon the time will come when Marshall has to leave her too. He can't stay on the island forever.

Right?
