Hunting is in my blood. I can't get away from it. If it has fangs, claws, or goes bump in the night, I've chased after it. Flirting with Death was just another Friday night for me and my family. Before my brother's death, he once compared our blind faith in what we do to drunks dancing with coat racks. He wasn't wrong. There had been a lot of things that remained the same since I'd lost him, but the rules our father had laid out to keep us safe didn't hold the same meaning after he was gone.
"Watch each other's back."
I walked away from my family.
"Take someone with you when you go hunting."
I refuse to put someone else in harm's way.
"Don't get involved with anything that isn't human. They think we're dinner."
Well, I messed that one up.
"Don't leave unfinished business."
Yeah...I've got more unfinished business than a dead letter office.
It's been six years since I'd last set foot in Cordova, Alaska. The next generation of my family has begun to find their footing in the world I tried to escape. Every time I tried to stop, something clenched in my stomach, instinctual and feral. It compelled me to move. Sometimes it felt like it was pulling me in the opposite direction, back the way I came. That feeling I ignored - nothing short of demonic possession could convince me to go anywhere near that forest ever again. What I kept of the original idea plot: 1.The fact that the original mate died and that second chances are given once a decade. 2.The new mate can be only human. 3. Multiple werewolves will feel attracted to her. 4. He will kidnap her at some point in the story. Hereby I am giving credit for the idea. All the rest belongs to me, should not be copied and bla, bla, it is a work of fiction and should be viewed as such. As I know myself it will contain violence and mature stuff so be aware. I was getting ready to start my senior year of high school when my dad was offered a promotion in an ally pack. He was our alpha's younger brother. (In other words my uncle is the Alpha.) My dad did accounting and record keeping for our pack as a delta. One of our ally packs contacted him to be a beta in charge of pack records and accounting. His record keeper and his mate were wanting to retire. His mate was an OB/GYN nurse. My mom was the midwife assistant. She could become the pack midwife. This would mean we would have to move. I wasn't sure I really wanted to move. I loved the art program at my school. We get moved and the first day at the new school I meet my mate and he rejects me. He was the warrior beta's son and I was the record's beta daughter, and he rejects me. Ugh then in front of me he claims the alpha's daughter. I was devastated but I refused to show my emotions to him. The next day at I attend school I am claimed by an alpha as my second chance mate.
