Alexander lives in a perfect world. Your whole life is laid before you the day you take your LOCHO (Love, Occupation, Children, Housing, Other) test. To make matching easier, humans were genetically engineered to only see one color, the color of their matches with the most potential. After his test, he's matched with a girl named Eliza. She seems nice enough, but not exactly right. But he's certain that they'll fall in love someday. Until he wasn't certain at all. "Isn't the sky so beautiful? I just love our color." She said, smiling and gazing up above. Eliza can see blue. The color of deep oceans. The color of the sky on a clear day. The color of his mother's eyes, she had said, while gazing upon a picture of her. Alexander can see green. The color of the nature surrounding them. The color that followed him everywhere. The color that seemed to suffocate him, knowing something had gone wrong. Only when he confided in his best friend, John, did he realize who he was really meant for. Perhaps he realized it too. Alexander can see green. The color of open fields. The color of deep forest. The color of John's eyes. And John can see it too.

"City X: The Society Where Everything Is Just Perfect!" Yeah, right. I see that slogan everywhere, no matter where I look. It's all a lie, an illusion. Everyone believes that it's perfect, but they don't know the workings of the inside. I was told by someone I met years ago what really goes on inside the government building, and since have been moved to the poorest part of the "perfect" city. With every passing day, I feel my reality slipping away, fading into darkness and despair, no hope in me ever being normal ever again. I remember the day this all started like it was yesterday. I was a small five-year-old boy that had the intelligence of an eleventh grader when a new student joined our class, myself having to be the one who had to take him around the school... ~~~ Originally Completed On: November 19th, 2017 Published On: August 1st, 2018
