All the Texts He Wrote

Shane Fallow. A best friend. A boyfriend. A future husband. All down the drain.
They were two freshman in love hanging out at the beach. They were both on volleyball teams, her on the girls, him on the boys. They were playing volleyball and the volleyball went in the water. He told her he'd go get it, but when he went in the water, a huge wave came.
She started running toward him, but he told her to stay where she was. "It's not safe," he said. "I'll be out soon, just let this wave pass." She did as she was told and stayed by the net.
No one's seen him since.
She was sitting on her bed two years later, doing some homework, when her phone started buzzing like crazy. She picked it up. She dropped her phone as soon as she read the notification.
