Boys will be boys, right? Wrong.
Elias Floyd was a normal kid, who lived with a normal Afro-Latino family, which normal grades and normal friends. He knew how his life was going to go, too. Finish high school, start college, become a baseball player. Get married to a girl and have children. That's what he imagined it would be like. But, it was just now that the 15 year old would fall in love.. with a 16 year old white boy. The 80s were a hard time for people of color and people who identifed as homosexual or LGBTQ in general. Freddie Lawrence thought so too. That he would marry a woman, but eventually, found out he was gay, too. Although it seemed unlikely, the boys came to be friends, then fell in love. That is, until Elias was shot at a party he went to by a police officer who thought he was carrying a gun, when really, it was just a Coke bottle.
The story is a flashback, in Freddie's perspective after the shooting and after the trial.
