For centuries, humanity battled its own demons-war, destruction, the ever-present shadow of extinction. But against all odds, it endured. Nations united, wounds healed, and a single banner rose above the entire Earth: United Earth Government and later the United Federation of Planets. By the year 2288, humanity had transformed from a fractured species into a galactic civilization. The Federation stretched across the stars, its influence reaching every corner of the Milky Way. It was an era of peace, progress, and unmatched technological triumph. And yet... they were alone. No matter how far their ships traveled or how many worlds they surveyed, there was no sign of other intelligent life. The universe vast, ancient, and beautiful remained eerily silent. Theories once whispered in academic circles, the "Great Filter," the "Rare Earth" now loomed large and terrifying. Was intelligence a cosmic accident? Was humanity the only one to make it this far? Then, everything changed. On the eve of humanity's historic voyage to Andromeda (M31). Zero Sum
Humanity is not alone in the universe. More specifically Earth is not alone. It is an age of wonder for humanity. For all but a few. Our history has been altered, according to one who has visions of the fractured world that could have been but never was. The way history would have played out without an intergalactic coalition of humans visiting Earth. And he cannot decide whether the advanced human's arrival is really all that it seems. Whether we would have been better off as things are now, or with how his visions tell him things ought to have been. There are multiple worlds colonized by a vast space faring technologically and biologically enhanced human race all across the galaxy. Earth is just one of many of such colonies. At some point in our forgotten past Earth was cut off from our intergalactic neighbors and decides to fend for herself. Later we lose ourselves to infighting and nationalism instead of being true to our nature of being a space dwelling, intergalactic human cooperative. Now our space cousins are reestablishing contact with Earth. Bringing their superpower enabled, technological mastery of science so advanced as to seem supernatural. Eliminating slavery, wars, crime, diseases, climate shifts, and currency, with their arrival. Offering the promise of entry into a thriving united galactic empire. (I am dropping in from time to time updating the story with fresh ideas as they pop into my head this is so very much a first draft I have not even decided on names for some of the characters or different factions of humans that are to be encountered from beyond our solar system)
