A new boy called Jon moves to Quinty's school in the middle of Term 1 in year seven. Despite his looks, Quinty doesn't bother about him until things get complicated with her friend Merel and Jon. At year seven camp, Jon suddenly comes up in her life all the time but once camp ended, they didn't talk for about a year. At the start of year 8, Quinty was being severely bullied by Donny and Joel, two idiots in her class, and she can’t stop them bullying her as she is being threatened by Donny that if she tells anyone they’re bullying her, she will be badly beaten up so much she will be in a coma. In year 8 just before the Term 2 holidays, Jon moves into her class. Quinty’s friend Phoebe (who's in Quinty's class) doesn't want Jon to move into their class because of mean things he has done to her in the past. Jon gets Quinty’s number from her friend Stijn and they start talking but soon Jon finds out about her problems. Jon starts to help and support Quinty and despite is rebelissh nature, his bad boyness and his past suspensions, Quinty discovers a good side to Jon no one else has. But suddenly rumors have been spread about Jon about him smoking as he carries a lighter with him and a girl called Rosa who doesn't speak much English thinks she saw him smoke. This makes Jon really angry as he doesn't want to ruin his bond with Quinty. People tell her about these rumors and Phoebe tries to convince he is bad. To make matters worse, Quinty thinks she might have a crush on him but she doesn't want to ruin the bond between her and Jon. Who will Quinty side with Jon or everyone else?
