So this story is set after he loses the Alola league. His friends end up ditching him because they feel like they have been held back by Ash. Only his Alolan friends stick with him and a select few of his older friends, and they live in Alola from then on. A year later, a trainer named Red defeats the Kanto champion. Six months later, Lance falls. Then Steven and so on. Over the course of five years, Red beats all seven champions and becomes a true pokemon master.
