After the "Optic nerve blocking scene", a massive wall stands between two best friends. With the loss of Micheal Mell, Jeremy was able to accomplish a large growth in popularity. Micheal suffers a parallel  fate, unable to escape the constant  torment that comes with being unpopular in high school.

Michael is now left alone with no chance, friends, or anything resembling a social life. He has nowhere else to turn. 

At the begging of their last year of high school, Michael wants to change himself, hopefully for better, maybe for worse . 

He's made his choice.
