After biting the bullet during the battles filled with heartbreaks and agony, First Lieutenant Zeruiah Romero finally wins respect to herself when people start to raise their right hands at the side of their foreheads and watch her with amusement in their faces as she stands in front of them with her BDA. She is high on life as of the moment; not to mention that she as well as finds him who gives sparks in her eyes and light to her world.
Being with Doctor Iaer Sevilla assures her that there will always be someone who will stick and will, therefore, not leave her. But in those times they are not in each other's arms, she realizes that another battle may happen anytime soon where her heart will shiver again yet he is no more capable of giving her warmth through his used-to-be comforting embraces.
In the end, she must try her best to keep the last flames of fire burning within herself to prevent being subdued by the unwelcoming darkness and to know the reason behind his hindmost salute - a sign of respect for conquering the battle or a sign of goodbye for failing it.
