When Rhysand, Cassian and Azriel attend a meeting at an Illyrian War Camp, they are surprised by a portal being opened, and things charging through.  Along with horrific demons, that could have only come from the deepest pits of hell, came warriors who attempted to slay the demons.  
With a quick battle of light and darkness, the trio of Illyrians notice there is a Shadow Slinger among them, much stronger and in control of his darkness than Azriel thought possible.  But with the Shadow Slinger, there was also the warriors of light, who identify themselves as The Forsakens, taught from youth to hunt the demons that plague their world.  
But the portal that was opened is quickly closed leaving two Forsakens behind in the Night Court
